TravellAR a short introduction.
TravellAR uses AR technology to connect two friends or strangers to let them interact with each other in the same world. One of the players can play as a travelling mushroom, looking for berries. The other player will play as a spirit, whom is able to change the world by adding and deleting blocks. Together they can reach the berries and complete the mission. To make the players feel more connected, we've added a feature where the two players can see each others position, in the form of an orb. This is done by tracking the players phones position, in relation to the AR world, and translating this into an orb that the other player can see.
Goals & Motivation
- Explore interaction mechanics that encourage social distancing
- Use AR Technology to create a shared virtual space
- Design asymmetric interaction
- Figure out fun interaction methods
- Connect everything to a server environment
Challenges & Obstacles
Our main challenges in the creation of this game has been to study different ways of interacting and manipulating a world space in a fun and interactive way that encourages teamwork through gameplay. Design and creating an AR-world, with everything from modelling and shading to figuring out easy and intuitive interaction methods.
As the pandemic of 2020 was a major influence in general for the development, we also faced the challenge of needing to implement server interaction between two players, to allow players to connect despite social distancing.
In doing this we faced a few obstacles, such as getting multiple bugs due to server integration or figuring out how AR Foundation works and making it as stable as possible.
